Inspiring views of central Lakeland and with views of some of the loveliest places in the Lake District. A cruise on Coniston Water is included in the price of the tour and in addition we visit many places, houses and farms that are associated with Beatrix Potter including her famous Hill Top farm; the very first farm belonging to Beatrix which can still be seen just as it was when she lived there. We see where William Wordsworth and his family are buried in the Churchyard in Grasmere Village, right next door to the Gingerbread Shop which is a must for many passengers, also a look at Dove Cottage where Wordsworth was living when he wrote his most famous poem ‘The Daffodils’. On our Coniston Water cruise we see where Arthur Ransome wrote Swallows and Amazons and Brantwood, overlooking Coniston Water, where 19th century philosopher John Ruskin lived. We also call in at Hawkshead, for Beatrix Potter’s Gallery and where William Wordsworth went to school in the late 18th century. For the scenic part we stroll around Tarn Hows a local beauty spot that once belonged to Beatrix Potter and we take a look at Yew Tree farm in the Yewdale Valley used as Hill Top in the film Miss Potter. On our way through Skelwith Bridge we stop at the very impressive Skelwith Force Waterfall where you can stand close up to the edge of the falls. All of this, in the short space of an afternoon, after which we return to Windermere via Ambleside and for those catching a train we drop them at Windermere train station and we return everyone else to their hotel B & B etc. By far one of the best ‘value for money’ half day tours in the Lake District and if you are only in the Lake District for a short stay this definitely should not be missed.
